In a search through the 4 Gospels I noticed that Jesus was not quoted as saying, “once saved your always saved” or anything close to it. Instead He says things like, “endures until the end”. Two instances of this can be found recorded by Saint Matthew in his gospel.
“You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.
Matthew 10:22 (NASB)
Again a second time in a different discourse in Saint Matthew’s gospel the he records the following.
“Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. “But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Matthew 24:12-14 (NASB)
When searching through the other Gospels to see if they collaborate the idea of enduring to the end we find Saint Mark also records that same saying of Jesus.
“You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
Mark 13:13 (NASB)
If you do a word search in all four gospels the phrase “Once Saved Always Saved” or any close variation it doesn’t show up as a teaching of Jesus, but instead it seems that Jesus was instructing his listeners and apostles that salvation come to those who endure to the end.
It seems to indicate that remaining in Christ, or staying in the grace of God is important to reaching salvation at the end of one’s life.
Study, Think, and Pray about it.
